CTC
was founded in 1961 as a corporation by John Warwick
and Erwin Herbert. Both men at one time worked for Walter
Kidde Co. The initial product was the unwind tensioner,
now familiarly known as the 800C. At the time there was
a void in the market for this type of equipment. CTC's
first patent was for this product, and there are now 10,000
units in operation. Initially, John was in charge of Engineering
and Design while Herb handled sales and the office.
CTC's
first order was to Aerojet General Corp.for winding
rocket motor tanks for the U. S. Navy.
The first location
was actually in John Warwick's house in Livingston, N.J.
In 1964, the company moved into rented headquarters at
364 Glenwood Avenue in East Orange, N.J. In 1968, they
purchased land, hired an architect, and contracted to
build a small factory at 476 Thomas Boulevard in Orange,
N.J. The building was expanded in 1973. In 1977, the company
was relocated to its current location in West Caldwell.
A major expansion was added in 1991.
